Bing, MSN have worst two new logos, experts say

Replies to this Topic

I'm so tired of cute stuff, plus it's hard not to be prejudiced against anything Microsoft, but even so, that "bing" looks like someone took the typeface and changed the "x" coordinates to stretch it out, without adjusting the various widths on the strokes. Maybe they didn't want to put too much effort into it (since they were up against google) and just used the original sketch...

msn is also amateurish. Stuff like this makes one hanker to go in there and fix the type! And what's with the grey? I don't mind the butterfly thing—it reminds me of stage lights.

Yes, I agree about it being hard not to be prejudiced against Microsoft. I read somewhere that the designer said that they created the typeface and that it was intended to have that distorted effect. But that was the end of the justification, no reasoning behind it, which to me is very odd since you KNOW that snarky designers like myself will go right to that!

I actually like the butterfly thing too. Looks like they tried to be different with that thin sans serif type but the face doesn't feel modern to me at all. The S is really bad IMHO. And why would a butterfly be hanging around a grey ugly thing. They never hang around my car in the summer :-)

Geez, now you made me look at those logos again! One more thing...not fond of those wimpy truncated ascenders on the m & n in "msn". OK that's enough! Like your comment about not hanging around ugly grey things. Happy New Year!
